The Challenge

Funzi Island along the Kenyan coast has witnessed the gradual disappearance of its once-thriving mangrove forest due to economic and environmental factors, with an estimated 46% of it needing rehabilitation.

Formed in response to the mangrove forest’s disappearance, the Munje Tunusuru Women’s Group have taken it upon themselves to restore the mangroves, creating a sustainable future for their community, improving the local economy and passing knowledge to future generations.

The Design for Good team worked alongside CORDIO, who help local communities conserve natural resources, to improve the accessibility of and provide comprehensive information about the Munje Tunusuru Women's Group.

The Innovation

The Design for Good team designed a website and visual identity to support the Munje women by bringing awareness to Funzi Island and their mangrove restoration cause.

See the Munje Tunusuru Women’s website here: tunusuru.org.

Brand marketing and awareness

To amplify the project's impact, the team created a resource package that includes branding for projects, such as the women’s beekeeping initiatives, and dedicated marketing materials, including a dedicated webpage showcasing the progress, activities and stories of the Munje women.

The website is now live, working with the creative marketing agency Launch to optimise it for SEO and increase visitors.

The Results

An engaging, fully branded website that brings attention to the Munje Tunusuru Women, their cause and ways to support the restoration of the Funzi Island mangrove forest.
